A selection of the Universities that teachers at ISS have attended
The International School of Samui (ISS) Kindergarten is set on the schools nature filled campus and presently boasts more than 15 nationalities from 1 to 5 years old. Our safe and secure Kindergarten block consists of 5 classrooms, a Gymnasium/Dance Studio, covered play area and a large safe and secure outdoor play area. Kindergarten students also have access to the swimming pool and library/ICT room. Our Early Years teachers are qualified to teach the Early Years Foundation Stage and are dedicated to keeping up to date with the latest curriculum changes and updates from the UK.
The Early Years Foundation Stage became compulsory in the United Kingdom in September 2008 for registered providers of the care and education of children ages 0 – 5.
-A Unique Child
Here at the ISS we understand that all children are unique individuals
who grow and develop at varying rates. Our Early Years teachers are committed to making learning personally meaningful to each child and build on individual knowledge, skills and understanding. Constantly observing and assessing our students enables us to plan meaningful activities and provide resources that are personally meaningful, engaging and interesting to each individual child.
-Positive Relationships
Here at the ISS Kindergarten parents play a vital role in their Childs education. Parents are always welcome to come along and observe our environment and our Early Years teachers are always happy to discuss the curriculum or any particular needs of individual children. We also believe that adults are a child’s best resource and warm trusting relationships with knowledgeable adults in a secure environment where a child feels that they belong and where their opinions are valued, accepted and respected is worth more than any amount of resources.
-English development
Why the global trend in sending children to school at such a young age?
Recent research findings found that high quality preschools offer learning opportunities over and above what most homes can provide. Children’s ability to work independently improves significantly as a result of preschool, a high predictor of future academic success.
The knowledge of a second language is highly beneficial. Leading linguists generally agree that the earlier the acquisition of two languages begins, the more likely learners will acquire native-like phonological skills. Research indicates that the first four years are vital in learning a second language.
All of these areas are equally important and interconnected.
The curriculum is delivered through a well planned play based approach to learning and development rather than chronological, age based teaching and learning. Young children learn best through fun, hands on activities.
ISS teachers understand the vital role of spontaneous child led free play without which children may become angry or suffer depression. This is the reason why we ensure all our students are given the opportunity for both indoor and outdoor free play sessions each day.
