Admissions to ISS
Visiting the school and meeting with our Admissions team in person is the best possible way to experience the International School of Samui. Our dedicated and knowledgeable team speaks English, Thai, French, Russian and Chinese, and we very much look forward to assisting you with any questions and requests you may have. In the meantime please find below important information with regards to enrolling your children with us here at ISS.
To enrol at ISS we prefer, where possible, to arrange for parents/guardians and their child/ren to visit the school and meet with a member of the admissions team. Students joining us from Years 3 to Year 11 will be required to take two online assessments prior to being offered a place at the school. The online tests are an English test (NGRT) and Cognitive Ability Test (CAT). These tests can be taken at the school or at home.
The school will consider previous school reports and grade cards when awarding a place to a student. ISS will liaise with the student's previous school for all necessary documentation and a character statement. A student may be offered a trial week so that the school can assess a child fairly. Children joining the Early Years will be offered up to 3 trial days to settle them into school life. For students entering the Senior School, when feasible, an interview with the Headmaster will take place. A place will be awarded to a student who the school feels can access the curriculum and fit into the ethos of ISS.
Education Visas (ED Visa)
The school will provide full support to parents to apply for a student’s education visa and a parent's Non-O accompanying visa. Each enrolled student can be issued with an ED-Visa and one parent can follow a child's visa. This visa is called a Non-O Visa. Both visas can only be issued outside of Thailand. The initial visa given will be valid for 3 months. Thereafter, the visa will need to be extended with school documentation and various supporting documents from the parents and can be extended up to a period of 12 months. ED and Non-O visas can be renewed by repeating this process year after year.
In Thailand, the visa rules change often and with little notice. The school will always keep parents abreast of any new information it has received regarding visas. Visa criteria & fees can vary according to the political climate of the country. Students transferring from another school in Samui or elsewhere in Thailand can transfer their visa from their previous school to ISS by providing a typed visa form from their original school in Thai.
Other visas are available to foreigners wishing to move to Thailand to work or settle.
Non-B visa (Working Visa)
Adult Education Visa (Learning English or Thai Language)
