Swimming at ISS
ISS has a well-earned reputation as the most active and accomplished swimming school in Samui.
Students from Reception to Year 9 are taught one full hour swimming lesson every week, and have the opportunity to join the School Swim Team, The Samui Sharks, led by our swim coach, Mr. Mark Withers. The Samui Sharks attend swim meets throughout the year both in Samui and further afield.

ISS provides opportunities for swimming throughout the school. Group lessons for youngsters, beginners swimming lessons for both children and adults, fitness and stroke training for children and adolescents (Stingrays Club), private one-to-one tuition, progression swimming for younger children, adult swimming for fitness and technique, as well as an open-water swim squad which meets weekly. If you would like to get into swimming, please refer to the swimming timetable or contact any of our coaches for information.
We are very proud of the highly professional coaching team behind our success. Our school swimming teacher, Mr. Mark Withers, holds both Swim England Level 2 and Swim Coach Asia Level 3 qualifications. He also holds multiple qualifications in gym instruction and has a wide knowledge base of health and fitness. His role balances curriculum lessons with training the school squad, alongside occasional private tuition.
ISS is also fortunate to work with Bianca Marnewick and Chris Viljoen, who both hail from South Africa with competitive history in Open Water Swimming and High-Performance Competitive Swimming. Both coaches hold qualifications to teach swimming at all levels.
"Swimming is a life-saving skill that every child has the right to learn."
