Updated: Mar 29, 2019

The ISS Basketball squad are back from the British International School, Phuket – BISP competition. From the 15th- to the 16th March, over 200 athletes from across Asia gathered to compete in the annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament. The competition featured 14 international schools from Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand. We took four teams from the International School of Samui, girls and boys in U13 and U15 age categories.

The first day of the tournament kicked off on Friday morning with the U13s battling it out for winning hoops. The competition was fierce with both teams playing to a high standard against some of the best young basketball players in the country. Then, our ISS representatives who took part in the shooting contest and showed great skill in front of an enthusiastic crowd. We must congratulate Ballet in U15s girls who just missed out on the final by only 1 basket and Pia, U13s girl for tying 3rd place with 5 baskets.

We were also treated to an enthralling spectacle, watching ISS representatives from both teams and both age groups engage in the exciting skills competition. The timed contest involved speed dribbling, accurate passing and a final free throw. Mind in Year 9 displayed a remarkable performance, flying through to the quarter finals, with her incredible skills.

It was a successful weekend for all, with three out of our four teams making it through to the Plate Finals and one team through to the semi-finals. Both the U13 and U15 girls’ teams drew in the finals against BISP, going to golden goal and then the shootout where they lost.

Mr Armitage, ISS basketball coach, said ‘The U15’s played amazingly, being up 2-1 in the final until the last 3 seconds when BISP scored a lucky shot! We are very proud of all our players, they showed a huge development in skill and dedication to the sport and hopefully we can learn from this experience to keep improving for future events’.

We look forward to our forthcoming swimming event to Phuket and wish our swimmers as much success as our basketball players! Well done everyone.
