Thailand Holiday advisory

We would like to give everyone a pat on the back for completing the first half of this school term. As we prepare for our holiday trips, we would like to keep you informed of the Thai ceremonies and events taking place as our half-term break coincides with the cremation of the honourable King Bhumibol Adulyadej. During the 5-day royal funeral ceremony which takes place next week, businesses are encouraged to operate as usual except for the actual cremation day on the 26th of October. Please expect some heavy traffic in metropolitan Bangkok during this time, especially in areas close to the Grand Palace, as an estimated 200,000++ Thais will take part in the ceremony. Below are the highlights of the advisory from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and some helpful links you can refer to. "Many Thai people will be wearing black clothes as a sign of mourning. This is not required of visitors but if possible, they should wear respectful clothing when in public. We also would like to request that the solemnity of the Royal Cremation is observed, and visitors should refrain from conducting any inappropriate or disrespectful behaviour. "... This gesture of empathy and friendship will be remembered by the people of Thailand for decades to come." -- Read full article here
