Hungarian Goulash, Russian borsch, Greek moussaka, Indian curry, Liverpudlian stew, Korean kimchi, Chinese noodles, Italian pasta, German sauerkraut, Colombian curry, coconut ice cream and vegan specialities were some of the favourites bringing together our international school community under one roof at the recent ISS International Food Fair 2019.
The revival of the international food fair last Friday was a roaring success with an outstanding 60,000 Thai Baht raised for our 2 charities. The parents and students contributed full heartedly to this event and the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. With more than 23 countries represented and delicious foods for all to enjoy. Our Thai mums stole the show in their matching leopard print outfits offering a mix of Thai specialties. There were curries from Colombia and India. Traditional Scouse from Liverpool and borsch from Russia. Asian treats included Chinese dumplings, Korean delicacies all washed down with fresh Tamarind Juice and a firm Thai favourite, Iced Bubble Tea. Germany didn’t disappoint with homemade potato salad and sauerkraut. Sweet treats included milk tarts from South Africa, a full table of homemade English cakes as well as VaVa’s new frozen yoghurt flavours. The basketball court was packed with parents and students enjoying all these dishes. We were entertained to traditional Russian Opera songs from professional singer, Evgeniia, mum of Grisha and Masha.
The food fair truly represented the international nature of ISS and all the amazing families we are grateful to serve every day. The fun continued with traditional Fete games set up on the grass field and an art corner with the slime table being undoubtedly the favourite activity for the little ones. We would like to thank all the student volunteers and parent contributions who made this event happen. We are also immensely grateful to our Operations team led by Stephen who managed to pull off an amazing amount of work in just over a week.
The real purpose of such an event is to bring together our amazing community, but also to teach our children about giving back to others. Our students are so proud to be able to donate to the Nathon Hospital Children’s Ward and the Wat Sawang Arom Primary school. Our senior head boys, Hut and Alex and primary head boy, Julian and girl, Seraphina will be presented this donation of behalf of the International School of Samui.
