Year 1 hosted our first Primary Assembly this term

Based on their topic: "Plants"

On Friday 26th January 2018, students from Year 1 hosted our Primary Assembly sharing what they have been learning this term. The class zeroed in on the story of "Jack and the Beanstalk" and engaged in some investigative work on how plants grow.

Their learning of Jack's story extended to their Literacy, Science and Maths lessons in the last three weeks. Children are more likely to remember their lessons in these subjects when they are anchored in traditional tales such as Jack and the Beanstalk.

Year 1 students learnt about multiplication through "splitting plants"... their literacy and art lessons included writing and drawing story maps... and of course they studied about how plants grow, to understand what happened to the seeds Jack planted.

All this learning was summarised on Friday in a successful primary assembly that included story-telling, singing and interaction with other students from Reception to Year 6.

It was an awesome Friday afternoon had by all and Year 1 students should be very proud of their accomplishment.
