Business Management trip to McDonalds

Flickr

Our IGCSE Business Studies students were invited to visit McDonalds restaurant to learn about how fast food franchises operate. The group visited three 'stations' in the restaurant: the lobby and stock room, the kitchen area, and the front counter, where they were allowed to make hamburgers and drinks and of course eventually got to taste the food. So many elements of the Business Studies course are well illustrated by the restaurant: globalisation, franchises, marketing and stock control to name only a few. McDonalds is one of the greatest business stories of all time and there are so many lessons to be drawn from its model and history which began over 60 years ago. The man who started its franchise, Ray Kroc's stories of failures, perseverance and success continues to be an inspiration to young entrepreneurs of this age.
