Primary Assembly Finale for Term 2

It has been an absolutely wonderful and amazing ride in Term 2 at the International School of Samui! In fact, this is probably the best Term 2 in recent history.

This week saw huge events and celebrations take place around the school and everyone had a great time. We all deserved it after a full term of hard work, perseverance and survival through challenging moments in academic studies and otherwise.

So today, to wrap up our week, the Primary school got together and squeezed in a whole slew of awards recognising their achievements in about half an hour.

First, we would like to thank Isabel (Year 6) for leading the assembly and preparing her presentation. She tackled the Easter celebration: its origins; why we celebrate it; and what it means for people of Christian faith.

From there, we went on to recognising the students who won the Easter Egg decorating contest:

Early Years - Leonardo Coyle ( Busy Bees)

Key Stage 1 - Jasmine Jamplis (year 2)

Key Stage 2 - Liza Lebedeva ( year 6)

We also awarded the house that won the Easter Egg hunt competition. Congratulations to the House of Einstein for becoming the Easter Egg hunting masters through your team work and great egg hunting abilities!

Left: Martin, House Captain of Einstein accepted the Easter Egg hunt trophy. Next to him are Leo, Jasmine and Liza with their decorated eggs and prizes.

All the members of the House of Einstein were then invited to receive their rewards and enjoy their winning moment!

Next up: Punctuality Award. Our Primary teachers have been collecting records of punctuality of their students this term and have come to the conclusion that Newton House had the most number of punctual and time-efficient students. Congratulations Newton. Keep up the great work and keep challenging other students to learn this valuable virtue of yours!

We also have the House Point system at the International School of Samui where students get a house point for every good deed they display and practise. At the end of this term, the house points were accumulated and totalled... and again Newton snapped up the trophy! Congratulations once more.

We also would like to Congratulate Darwin House for winning the Songkran competitions yesterday! It was an absolute test of strength and endurance as we played games such as tug of war in the unbearable heat.

Liza and Laura, the two Captains (Term 1 & 2, respectively) from the

House of Darwin very happily carrying their Songkran trophy.

After this, it was time for the Good Manners Awards given by our Primary School Teaching Assistants.

  • Pii Aor has chosen Julian Shin (Year 5)

  • Pii Raan awarded Nongyhok Buranachaithavee (Year 4)

  • Pii Pere had her eyes on Cassius Gavelle Le Berre (Year 1)

  • Pii Chompoo chose Jenna Rivoal (Year 3)

  • Pii Pak recognised Matt Kulvanich (Year 2)

  • Pii Yui awarded Emily Watt (Reception)

We moved on to our customary Birthday greetings. Happy birthday to Bodhi, Philo, Masha, Qianqian, and Iakov! We have more to mention, and we'll leave it for next term!

Finally, our Primary Assembly concluded with two more acknowledgements:

Mek Athaphaisal (Year 4) -- a very intelligent, talented and one of the friendliest primary students -- is moving on to enter a new phase of challenge and accomplishments. He is moving to Bangkok next term. We will definitely miss him, but we are happy for him and wish him the best. His class teacher, Mr Andrewartha and mates put together a "good luck book" sending him our well wishes.

And then Taisiya Lavrenkova (Year 5) got the spotlight as a good role model for our students having been able to take part in a major international swimming event. The assembly ended with Mr Withers giving our students a valuable takeaway: reminding us that whatever our interests are, if we put our heart and soul to it and work hard to be good at it, we will achieve things more than we can imagine.

What a great assembly! I honestly don't know how they managed to fit it all in 30 minutes!

We wish everyone a wonderful Songkran celebration and Term break! See you in Term 3!!!
